Monetizing Your Christian Blog

Wade Tonkin of the Christian Affiliate Marketing Association gave some useful information at the GodBlog Conference, a niche that was featured at BlogWorld Expo in Las Vegas, NV.

His presentation was entitled, "Supporting Your Blog While Staying Saved" and it contained a lot of useful tools to help you make money from your Christian blog.

I plan on implementing many of Wade's suggestions in an effort to put a little extra cash in my pocket and to earn money to donate to a Christian charity which I've yet to decide on - there are so many worthy causes! Wouldn't it be great if I could earn enough to help a few organizations?

Here are some of the things that Wade suggests:

Don't spend too much time on Direct Paid Ads when you are first starting out. They can be hard to sell.

Sign up for Blog Advertising Networks such as BlogAds. These networks allow you to submit your blog, let advertisers find you and request that they advertise on your site, and let you approve or reject the ad. Please note that BlogAds requires you be sponsored by another blogger in the network. Not to worry though, there are plenty of other Blog Advertising Networks out there.

Consider adding a "Blog Tipping Widget" to allow others to support your efforts. Scratchback.com is a program that supports tipping and allows you to make customize widgets.

Sign up for affiliate programs. There are two types: Network programs which has hundreds of products and handles all your billing or Private programs which you have to work with individually requiring more work on your part.

Write product reviews and be sure to include photos and images.

When working with a affiliate network look for a statement of faith. Sites that are scamming will not have one and should be avoided.

Sites to avoid:
Big Church
Spark Network.com
Christian Faith Financial
Dating and financial networks

Sites of interest:
Harvest Ministries
Singles of Faith
Christain Cafe
Commission Junction
shareasale.com

Wishing you "Blessings from Above" on monetizing your blog!

Denise, thanks for sharing this. I really want to get the information out.

I wanted to clarify some things that you mentioned.

Not all dating and financial offers calling themselves "Christian" are bad - just most :)

On the dating sites, definitely look for some indications of whether the "Christian" dating site is mission oriented or just monetizing Christians as a niche. Do they offer resoures to help their members in their Faith? etc.

I will be posting a resource to help Christian bloggers pick some good programs here in the next week or so.

Stay tuned to my sites at www.christianaffiliatemarketers.com and www.christianaffiliatemarketingassociation.com for more info.

God Bless,

Wade

Wade is a sharp guy. We've worked with lots of people in the online world who have promised monetization, but he's the only one so far to actually deliver on that promise in a realistic way.

I had hoped to meet with him directly at blogworld, but as you know it was insane crazy busy!

Thank you so much for sharing this information! I'm researching Christian blog advertising for a blog I hope to launch in the new year. I want to give my resources for effective women's ministries for free, but I was hoping there was still a way that I could earn a little cash for my family.

I am using christian cafe and we'll see how that works out. I do am skeptical of even putting a christian dating site on my website, some christians including my girlfriend don't seem to like the idea or think its wrong. What do you think?

Check out mine and let me know what you think!
